DENVER – A cold front moving into Colorado Friday could bring severe thunderstorms to the northeastern parts of the state, with damaging winds and hail possible later in the day.

There are severe thunderstorm watches in place until 8 p.m. for much of northeastern Colorado. The National Weather Service in Boulder said the showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop over the I-25 corridor by mid-afternoon.

The mountains will see showers and some snow above 10,000 feet in elevation, and southerly winds will gust up to 40 miles per hour on the plains.

Precipitation is expected to increase over the northern plains, and strong or severe thunderstorms are possible over far northeast Colorado, including Weld, Logan, Sedgwick and Phillips counties, according to the NWS.

“Large hail and damaging winds will be possible over far northeast Colorado this evening,” the NWS said.
