DENVER – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning to warn of critical wildfire conditions as warm and dry weather continues in Colorado. Hot temperatures, low humidity levels, and high winds are contributing to our very dry conditions on the ground.
The weather service issued Red Flag Warnings on Sunday until 7 p.m. and again on Monday at 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Strong winds ahead of a cold front will howl out of the west and southwest, with gusts between 45-65 mph.
Dramatically shifting winds could cause erratic fire behavior, according to a NWS statement.
After 2 straight days with highs in the 70s and dry conditions~Sunday’s high temperature will reach the upper 60s before falling into the high 20s overnight.
A cold front will help cool down the state..and Monday will be chilly and breezy with sunny skies and high winds. Highs will be in the 40s. A gradual warm-up is in store for the remainder of the week.
Snow has been scarce this season with only seen 19.4" of snow at Denver International Airport - about half normal at this point in the season.
In the mountains, the snow-pack is roughly at 75% of normal for the season, with the southern mountain areas in the worst shape. The recent storms are helping, but we could use several more good snowstorms!
