DENVER — A High Wind Warning is in effect until midnight and covers the northern Front Range mountains and foothills for gusts near 80 miles per hour.

The gusty winds will continue to be an issue on Tuesday, with high temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. It won't be quite as windy on Wednesday.

9:30 p.m. | School delays | Nederland Elementary and Nederland Middle-Senior High School will start classes at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday as power remains out at both Boulder Valley School District schools in the Nederland area, officials said.

12:36 p.m. | Airport delays| Flight delays and cancellations only continue to rise due to the wind. The total now stands at 800 flights delayed and 37 canceled in and out of Denver International Airport, according to FlightAware.

12:35 a.m. | Power outages | CORE Electric Cooperative said there are about 1,300 customers without power because severe winds broke power poles and downed trees.

"Please use the online Outage Center here or call (833) 267-3349 to report service interruptions," CORE Electric said in a post on the social media site X.

12:17 p.m. | US 40 closure | U.S. Highway 40 between Mile Markers 136 and 184, Rabbit Ears Pass, is closed due to multiple crashes and slide-offs, the Colorado Department of Transportation said.

Westbound traffic is being diverted to Mile Marker 172 north of Kremmling onto Colorado State Highway 134, CDOT said.

11:18 a.m. | Flying J Ranch Park reopened | Flying J Ranch reopened about two hours after it was closed, Jefferson County leaders said in a closure alert.

"The high winds caused a tree to come in contact with a powerline causing it to catch fire, Jefferson County said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, Elk Creek Fire Department and Jeffco Park Rangers were able to respond to the fire quickly and get it extinguished, according to the closure alert.

10:30 a.m. | US 40 closure | U.S. Highway 40 closed in both directions due to safety concerns between Kemry Lane in Steamboat Springs and Spruce Street in Kremmling, the Grand County Sheriff's Office said. Expect delays, the agency advised in a post on Facebook.

10:36 a.m. | Airport delays | There are 652 flights delayed in and out of Denver International Airport, according to FlightAware, and 31 cancellations.

The average delay is 93 minutes due to the wind, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

10:12 a.m. | Barr Lake closure | Barr Lake will be closed to all boating until Wednesday, Colorado Parks and Wildlife of the Northeast Region posted on the social media site X.

9:34 a.m. | Cheyenne Mountain fire | Wildland Fire Management with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office is addressing report of a fire on Cheyenne Mountain.

The Broadmoor Fire Department is the agency in charge, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office post on the social media site X.

9:22 a.m. | Airport delays | The number of delays at Denver International Airport spiked to 581, according to FlightAware, and there are 27 canceled flights.

"Due to WEATHER / WIND, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Denver International Airport, Denver, CO (DEN). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 1 hour and 32 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination," the Federal Aviation Administration said.

9:07 a.m. | Flying J Ranch Park closure | Flying J Ranch Park is closed until further notice for active wildfire operations, Jefferson County leaders said in a closure alert.

9 a.m. | Concert canceled | The Hippo Campus show at Red Rocks Monday night is canceled because high winds are expected near the amphitheater. The venue said refunds will be automatically processed for fans who got tickets through AXS.

8:27 a.m. | Traffic hazards | The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said it's getting reports of strong winds blowing a construction sign into the road and a tree into a lane of traffic.

8:09 a.m. | Airport delays | The wind is causing numerous delays at Denver International Airport, Denver7 Traffic Expert Jayson Luber said.

There are 478 delays into or out of DIA, according to FlightAware, and 19 cancellations.

7:49 a.m. | Power outages | Nearly 2,000 Xcel customers around the Denver metro area are without power, Denver7 Traffic Expert Jayson Luber said.

7:29 a.m. | Weather | More snow is expected Monday afternoon, creating slick spots and some snow-covered roads across mountain passes, the National Weather Service Boulder office said.

7:06 a.m. | Power outages | CORE Electric Cooperative said the high winds brought trees down on power lines, taking out service for more than 1,400 customers.

"Please use the online Outage Center here or call (833) 267-3349 to report service interruptions," CORE Electric said in a post on the social media site X.

6:38 a.m. | Weather | The National Weather Service expanded the High Wind Warning to include the Palmer Divide Monday morning.

"Avoid travel in high profile or lightweight vehicles. Be alert for falling sings/tree limbs," NWS advised in a post on the social media site X.

4:36 a.m. | Traffic | All lanes of I-25 shut down between E 58th Ave. and I-70 for about an hour Monday morning after wind blew down an overhead sign, according to an Adams County Fire Rescue post on the social media site X.

3:53 a.m. | Weather | The National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for southern Lincoln County and southeast Elbert County through 9 p.m. Monday.

"High winds and low relative humidity will support the potential for critical fire weather conditions," the National Weather Service Boulder office said in a post on the social media site X.

3:46 a.m. | Weather | Wind gusts across the plains will reach the 45-55 mph range with elevated fire danger in some areas, the National Weather Service Boulder office said.

3:39 a.m. | Weather | A High Wind Warning is in effect through 6 a.m. Tuesday for the foothills, according to the National Weather Service Boulder office.

Strong wind gusts are likely to reach 65-75 mph, the National Weather Service forecasted.

Damaging wind gusts possible across the Denver metro area
