DENVER — Scattered thunderstorms are developing ahead of a cold front that will sweep across Colorado tonight. The storms will gradually end overnight with skies becoming partly cloudy.

Prior to the storms, the high reached in the upper 90s, making it the 12th straight day of 90 degree-plus heat!

Tuesday and Wednesday will be about 10 to 12 degrees cooler, with a chance of afternoon storms and showers. Expect highs just in the low to middle 80s across the Denver metro area.

We don't get a break from the heat for long though! Hot and dry weather is expected late next week.

Drought conditions continue to get worse across Colorado, especially in the southern portion of the state. In Baca and Prowers Counties in the southeast corner, soil conditions are now rated as "extreme drought."
