DENVER — Christmas Day will be mostly cloudy to start, with clearing skies and seasonal temperatures. Highs will be in the low 40s over the metro area this afternoon.
Clouds will increase tonight and snow is expected to start falling in the mountains. Highs tomorrow over the metro area will be colder, with snow likely in the evening.
On Wednesday, a strong storm system is expected to produce snowfall and gusty winds across the majority of Colorado. Our southern San Juan mountains have Winter Storm Watches and Warnings that will be in effect. Up to a foot of snow is possible at higher elevations. The northeastern plains also have the best chance for moderate to heavy snow by Thursday morning. Around four to eight inches are possible, with very gusty winds.
If you are traveling in the days after Christmas, this storm will have the potential to impact travel conditions for the end of the week.
Right now, it looks like an inch or two of snow is expected across the Denver area Wednesday. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s. Then, Thursday and Friday will be very cold, with highs only in the upper 20s.
