Tuesday was hot and hazy across most of eastern Colorado as temperatures soared to the mid-90s over the Denver metro-area.
Try to stay out of the smoke if you have breathing issues. An Ozone Action Day Alert remains in effect through Wednesday afternoon.
A flow of moisture from the south has helped bring scattered thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall to the high country. Denver and the I-25 Corridor may see a few thunderstorms early tonight. The eastern plains will stay mainly dry under hazy and smoky skies.
Skies will become mostly clear overnight with lows only falling to the low to mid-60s in Denver, with middle 40s and low 50s in the mountains.
It will be hot again Wednesday over eastern Colorado with highs in the low to mid-90s, but there will be a better chance of thunderstorms later in the afternoon as a cold front rolls in from the west.
This cold front will likely produce heavy rainfall for the mountains and western valleys on Wednesday. Flash Flood Watches are posted over the western third of Colorado - especially near burn scars.
Showers and thunderstorms will be likely across the state on Thursday. Locally heavy rain will again be possible over the mountains, but some strong storms will also be possible for Denver and the eastern plains.
Thursday's afternoon highs will be in the 70s across the plains and 60s in the mountains — an early taste of fall!
However, the cooler weather will be short-lived. Highs return to the 90s for the weekend.
