Colorado could use more rain and snow, unfortunately that is not in the forecast for the next several days. Instead, a strong westerly flow aloft will help blow a couple of cold fronts through the area. Gusty winds, low humidity and little precipitation will keep fire danger high at times through the week.
The winds in Denver, the foothills and the eastern plains gusted to 30-40 mph during the afternoon, but will diminish during the evening and overnight.
Skies will remain mostly clear and the gusty winds have cleared much of the smoke out of the region for now. By Tuesday morning, lows will be in the 20s in the mountains and in the upper 30s to middle 40s for Denver and the plains.
Temperatures will be warmer Tuesday and Wednesday -about 5 to 10 degrees above normal with upper 70s to to low 80s.
Winds will not be as strong on Tuesday, generally from the southwest at 10-20 mph with some gusts to 30 mph. On Wednesday, the winds will increase ahead of the next cold front. Expect gusts over 40 mph in the afternoon.
The next cold front will be a dry one, but it will roll through by early Thursday with strong northwest winds of 25-50 mph and dip in temperatures. Expect highs in the upper 50s to low 60s on Thursday afternoon.
Friday and Saturday will be less windy and a little warmer again with highs in the 70s.
Another cold front will arrive and Sunday and may bring some light rain to the plains and some snow to northern and central mountains. While not a big storm, at least a little moisture is expected. Temperatures will be colder again with highs in the 50s Sunday and Monday.
