DENVER — We finally have broken our 12 day 90+ degree streak in Denver! A cold front ushered in some cooler weather and some welcome rain for the metro area and the eastern plains.

Scattered storms and showers are ending for the night, but more will return Wednesday afternoon.

Tonight, skies clear from west to east and lows across the Denver-area will cool to the upper 50s to low 60s.

Wednesday, highs will stay about 10 to 12 degrees cooler than the recent heatwave, with more afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Expect highs just in the low to middle 80s across the metro-area.

The break from the heat will not last for long though! Hot temperatures return by the end of the week and linger over the weekend. Highs will be in the mid and upper 90s. The chance for afternoon storms remains, especially over the mountains and foothills, through the end of the week.

Drought conditions continue to get worse across Colorado, especially in the western portion of the state. A fire weather warning is still in effect across the Western Slope. Temperatures will be well into the 90s there this afternoon.
