DENVER — After a bitter cold weekend and Monday morning, temperatures will gradually climb across Colorado over the next few days.
Temperatures bottomed out far below zero Monday morning, especially over eastern Colorado. Denver dipped to 16 degrees below zero, not quite the record for Feb 15th - that remains at 20 below, set in 1881. It was the coldest temperature in Denver since Feb. 6, 2014 when the temperature also dropped to 16 degrees below zero.
Even colder temperatures were recorded on the eastern plains. Limon hit minus 28 degrees and Sterling fell to 31 degrees below zero. The town of Crook, not far from Sterling sunk to 33 degrees below zero!
Tonight will still be very cold with lows dropping to the single digits above zero in Denver and 5 to 10 degrees below zero on the far eastern plains. Milder air of Pacific origin will replace the Arctic air over the next few days. This milder air will also bring some snow back into Colorado from the west.
The high country will start to see snow increase tonight and a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the mountains north of I-70. New snowfall through Tuesday could reach around 3 to 6 inches, with higher amounts possible for the mountains north of Rabbit Ears Pass
