DENVER — The weather has not been pleasant this week and it is about to get even worse! Rain will change to wet, heavy snow tonight and continue through Friday morning. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for Denver, the Northern Mountains and the Northeast Plains of Colorado.

Rain and even some thunder will give way to wet, heavy snow during the evening and continue through early Friday morning. The snow will be very slushy and may accumulate to 3-6 inches on grassy surfaces, but less on the streets and highways. Nonetheless, driving conditions will deteriorate overnight - especially in the mountains, foothills and southern suburbs above 6,000 feet.

Friday morning will be nasty with lingering snow, gusty north winds and cold temperatures in the upper 20s. The snow will diminish to flurries through the day, but temperatures will only reach the upper 30s.

Saturday will not be as cold, but there will be another chance for some rain and snow showers. Highs will be in the 40s for Denver and the I-25 Corridor, as well as in the mountains.

Sunday will be a little better with more sunshine and highs in the upper 50s - unfortunately this trend will be short-lived!

More cool and wet weather will move in on Monday with rain showers developing in the afternoon and highs dropping back to the 40s. Snow will fall in the mountains Monday night and early Tuesday with another 3 to 6 inches possible along and north of I-70.

Tuesday will be windy and cool with highs in the 40s. Wednesday will be dry and a little milder, but more rain is likely on Thursday.

The drought continues across the state, so despite the dreary outlook, we do need the moisture!
