Cold and snow hits Denver through Thursday morning

DENVER — A cold front arrived early Wednesday and was followed by an upper air disturbance. Upslope winds will concentrate and moisture and the biggest snowfall east of the Continental Divide with much lighter snow over central and western Colorado.

The main timing for the snow will through early Thursday. The mountains along and east of the Continental Divide will get 3-6 inches of snow, while Denver and the I-25 Corridor can expect 4 to 8 inches of snow by daybreak Thursday. Some places in the foothills west of Denver and along the Palmer Divide could see as much as 10 inches of snow.

With temperatures dropping into the teens by morning, there will likely be a lot of very slippery roads! Travel overnight will become difficult and the morning commute will be the most affected. Expect slushy and slick roads to be slowing things down considerably - allow plenty of extra time early.Thursday.

Thursday afternoon will be clear and cool with highs in the 30s. Milder weather will return on Friday with highs in the 40s.

Saturday will be dry and cool, followed by another chance for flurries Saturday night or early Sunday.

Next week will be dry and warmer with highs back near 60 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
