A Freeze Warning for eastern Colorado

Cooler weather came into Colorado in the wake of the dry, but windy cold front that passed by the state Thursday afternoon. The strong winds were clocked at 60 to near 80 mph in many areas of the mountains along and north of I-70, causing the Cameron Peak Fire to blow up and become the largest wildfire in Colorado history.

The cold front brought very little moisture, just a few light showers - but the cooler temperatures have helped firefighters by slowing the growth of the wildfire. The outlook is not as good for Friday as warmer and windier conditions will return. Fire weather Warnings are in effect for the mountains and foothills for Friday.

Tonight will be a chilly night as lows drop to the mid-to upper 20s over eastern Colorado. A Freeze Warning has been issued through early Friday morning.

Friday and Saturday will be warmer and remain dry with highs in the 60s in the mountains and low 70s for Denver and the eastern plains.

Another cold front will arrive and Sunday and may bring some light rain to the northeast plains and some snow to northern and central mountains. While not a big storm, at least a little moisture is expected. Temperatures will be colder again with highs in the 50s Sunday.

Dry and pleasant weather can be expected for early next week with highs in the lower 70s Monday and Tuesday.

Yet another fast moving cold front will move into Colorado late Wednesday and Thursday. Cooler weather and light precipitation will again be possible - but not a good soggy storm.
