DENVER — Eastern Colorado enjoyed a break from the heat Monday with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s on the plains under a mostly cloudy sky.

There was more sunshine over the mountains with highs 70s and 80s. Hot and dry conditions continued on the western slope, with temperatures well into the 90s near Grand Junction.

Tonight will be very comfortable with lows in the low to middle 50s in the Denver area and over much of eastern Colorado. In the high country, lows will be in the 40s. The Western Valleys will be the warmest, with lows in the mid-60s around Grand Junction.

The warmer air will dominate the state on Tuesday and temperatures will heat up quickly, with highs returning to the 90s for Denver and the eastern plains.

Smoke from wildfires in Utah and Arizona will be persistent across the state and in western Colorado. Stage 1 fire restrictions are into effect across much of western Colorado again and several wildfires are burning in the state. A Red Flag Warning will be in effect again Tuesday.

Wednesday will stay hot and dry, followed by cooling trend late Thursday into the weekend. Rain chances will increase - especially Friday and Saturday.
