Hot with storms possible in Denver area for the holiday weekend

DENVER — Warm weather this holiday weekend for Colorado, with temperatures soaring back into the upper 80s and low 90s for lower elevations and 70s to middle 80s in the mountains.

There will be some strong thunderstorms over the far eastern plains through early tonight, followed by clearing skies by Friday morning. Lows will be in the upper 50s to low 60s for lower elevations. In the mountains, lows will be in the 40s.

Friday will start out sunny, dry and pleasant with temperatures warming quickly by midday. Scattered thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon, with the strongest likely near the Kansas border.

Highs will be in the 90s on the plains and 70s to middle 80s in the mountains.

As of now, our Fourth of July holiday weekend is looking warm, but storms are likely on Saturday and Sunday afternoon! Highs will be in the upper 80s to low 90s both Saturday and Sunday.

Next week will be hot and mostly dry with mid-to upper 90s for Denver and the eastern plains.
