It's going to be a busy couple of days for Colorado as a strong and moisture-rich system impacts the state. Of highest concern will be the San Juan River in Pagosa Springs/Archuleta County, as historic river levels are expected here by Sunday evening. The current record river level is 17.8 feet, and the forecast is for the river to crest at 19.38 feet. Significant river flooding will be possible from Sunday evening into Monday morning. As much as 2-4" of rain in this area could lead to other flood threats, outside of river flooding. Residents are urged to avoid low lying areas, nearby any swollen rivers until conditions improve.

Tonight, expect a few rain showers across the metro area, with snow gradually increasing over the mountains overnight. Temperatures will stay fairly mild through much of the night, but colder air will begin moving in toward Monday morning.

Monday will bring a cooler and wetter day for the Front Range, with scattered to numerous rain showers across the plains. In the mountains, snow will pick up through the morning, with snow levels dropping to around 8,000 to 8,500 feet. Mountain roads could become slick in spots, especially over the passes.

Snowfall totals in the mountains are expected to range from 5 to 10 inches, with the heaviest amounts across the northern mountains. Strong north winds will also develop Monday, making for a breezy to windy day across the plains.

Monday night, showers will gradually taper off as drier air moves in. A few snowflakes could mix in around the Palmer Divide as colder air settles across the area.

Looking ahead, Tuesday should be mostly dry with temperatures closer to normal. Another weak system could bring a few showers and light mountain snow on Wednesday, but the rest of the week is looking mostly dry with temperatures staying near seasonal averages.
