DENVER — A snowstorm impacting Denver is pushing through Colorado as winter weather advisories and a winter storm warning remain in effect for portions of the metro and eastern plains. Heavier snow is expected to continue through Wednesday morning.

The Denver metro is under a winter weather advisory until 11 p.m., as an additional 2 to 8 inches of snow is possible, mainly south of I-76, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Boulder. The heaviest snow is expected to fall along the Palmer Divide.

6:30 p.m. | 7-vehicle crash in Denver | Police in Denver are investigating a crash involving seven vehicles near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Clinton Street. At least one person was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

6 p.m. | Snow day for Douglas County School District | The Douglas County School District canceled classes Thursday due to snow in the forecast and “worse than anticipated” road conditions. Read more in this story.

5:56 p.m. | Highway 58 shut down in Golden | A crash involving two Golden police officers has shut down Highway 58 at Washington Avenue. The conditions of the officers are not known at this time. Read more through this link.

1:27 p.m. | Clear Creek County alert | The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office said eastbound semi trucks coming down from the Eisenhower Tunnel need to keep their chains on until mile marker 259 in Golden. The trucks stopping to re-chain up before Floyd Hill are blocking traffic, causing a hazard for other motorists, the sheriff's office said.

11:50 a.m. | New I-70 closure | Eastbound I-70 is closed between E-470 and US 24 due to weather conditions.

10:30 a.m. | I-70 closure update | I-70 westbound has reopened between C-470 and Morrison Road.

10:23 a.m. | Current closure list | Snow has made quite the headache for drivers around Colorado. The following roads are now closed:

  • I-70 EB/WB Limon to Burlington due to adverse conditions
  • I-70 EB Airpark to Burlington due to adverse conditions/lack of vehicle parking in Limon
  • US 24 EB/WB East of Colorado Springs to Limon due to adverse weather and poor visibility
  • US 36 EB/WB Last Chance to Kansas State line due to adverse weather
  • US 40 EB/WB Hugo to Limon due to adverse weather
  • CO 59 NB/SB Haxtun to Kit Carson due to adverse weather
  • CO 71 SB from Limon due to adverse weather
  • CO 94 El Paso County line to US 40/287 Junction due to adverse weather

9:35 a.m. | Road closure | Eastbound I-70 between Watkins and Limon has closed, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Expect delays due to safety concerns.

9:35 a.m. | Lakewood crash clears | All eastbound lanes of I-70 have reopened following a crash earlier this morning.

9:31 a.m. | I-70 westbound closed | The westbound lanes of I-70 are closed between C-470 and Morrison Road, one mile west of Golden, due to safety concerns.

8:24 a.m. | Lakewood crash | All of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 closed before Colfax Ave. due a multi-vehicle crash near Denver West Marriott Boulevard, Lakewood police said.

There is no estimated time for when the road will reopen.

8:18 a.m. | Power outages | There are 3,039 Xcel Energy customers experiencing power outages right now across Colorado. 2, 831 of those are in the Denver metro area.

8:09 a.m. | Road closure | Westbound Interstate 70 between Rose Avenue in Burlington and U.S. Route 40 in Limon closed due to safety concerns, CDOT said.

7:59 a.m. | Snow in Castle Rock | The Town of Castle Rock has accumulated 8 inches on the roads. Castle Rock leaders are sending trucks with plows to residential streets to clear streets.

7:39 a.m. | Road closure | Starting at Table Mesa Drive, the Boulder Police Department is diverting traffic from getting onto eastbound Highway 36 toward Denver due to a crash. Boulder police ask drivers to find an alternate route. Highway 35 west in Boulder remains open.

A Colorado State Patrol trooper was hit on Highway 36 near McClaslin Boulevard, Boulder police said. The trooper had stopped to help another driver around 6:06 a.m. Wednesday when another car ran into his patrol vehicle with him inside. He had to be extracted from his car and taken to the hospital as a precaution, Boulder police said. There are no injuries reported, as of 7:44 a.m.

7:39 a.m. | Road closure | Colorado State Patrol closed eastbound Interstate 70 at Denver West due to a crash.

7:15 a.m. | View near Kipling |"It is a snowy mess" if you're driving along C-470 to the west where a crash has bee reported near Kipling.

6:55 a.m. | 225 crash | From Denver7 traffic expert Jayson Luber: "Looks like a possible spinout/crash on SB 225 after Alameda. Lanes are open as it is in the right shoulder area."

6:50 a.m. | Snow to continue this AM | Denver7 morning meteorologist Lisa Hidalgo says the bulk of the heavier snow will continue through at least the lunch hour with weather alerts, including a winter weather advisory remaining in place for Denver until 11 p.m. tonight.

5:20 a.m. | Interstate conditions | Denver7 Traffic Expert Jayson Luber says treacherous driving conditions should be expected along I-70 along the plains near Burlington. Closer in the metro, Luber says plows are working I-70 and driving conditions are mostly wet.

Across downtown, drivers should stay alert when crossing bridges and overpasses that “are really slick and covered with snow.
