The second trailer for “Top Gun: Maverick” is out, and fans are feeling the need for speed toward the release date of a second “Top Gun” movie.

The sequel to the iconic “Top Gun” from 1986 starring Tom Cruise is set to be released June 26, 2020. The first teaser trailer for the film came out July 18, and on Dec. 16, a second, more detailed trailer, debuted online via Cruise’s Twitter account and on Paramount Pictures’ official YouTube account.

Take a look at the newest theatrical trailer:

In this latest preview, we get more hints at what the film will be about.

The trailer’s caption says, “After more than thirty years of service as one of the Navy’s top aviators, Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell (Tom Cruise) is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him.”

But when he is called to train a separate group of Top Gun grads for “a specialized mission the likes of which no living pilot has ever seen,” new challenges take flight.

The Top Gun 2 cast includes Miles Teller, who plays “Rooster,” the son of Maverick’s late flying buddy “Goose.” Jennifer Connelly is Maverick’s love interest, and Jon Hamm and Ed Harris are above Maverick in the chain of command. Original cast member Val Kilmer also makes a return appearance as “Iceman.”

The new film trailer is nostalgia-heavy: a bar singing scene, a sunset motorcycle ride for two and intense flying scenes. But there’s also a female fighter pilot, new planes, and hints at a lot of new drama.

The online reaction seems to be wild excitement for the film’s release.

“I’ve been waiting thirty years for this!” wrote fan Charity Jones in a Facebook comment. “My grandpa and I watched this every time I stayed at his house, surround sound up with the house shaking. I wish he was still here to go see it with me and my son Maverick (yes, I named him after the movie … and our dogs are Goose and Charlie 😂)”

“A whole new movie to learn the lines too [sic] and annoy my wife for the next ten or so years,” said Peter Sutton, another fan.

Hamm told Collider recently that the film uses state-of-the-art technology.

“We’re shooting the movie in, I think, 6K,” he said. “So it’s incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it’s mostly practical. There’s not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs.”

We can’t wait! Are you ready for Maverick’s return?
