DENVER – A section of the Eisenhower Tunnel will close overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday as the Colorado Department of Transportation finishes testing of the fixed fire suppression system in the tunnel.
The closures will be as follows:
Tuesday, July 9: Full closure of westbound I-70 from the Loveland Pass exit (exit 216) through the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel starting at 11 p.m. and going through 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured over Loveland Pass (US 6).
Wednesday, July 10: Full closure of eastbound I-70 from the Loveland Pass exit (exit 216) through the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel starting at 11 p.m. and going through 6 a.m. Traffic will be detoured over Loveland Pass (US 6).
On Thursday, July 11, a single lane of eastbound I-70 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
CDOT officials said the testing is crucial to make sure the fixed fire suppression system in the tunnel is properly working in the event a fire breaks out in the tunnel.
