LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. – Northbound Interstate 25 and both directions of Highway 85 were shut down around 11 a.m. north of Greeley and Fort Collins all the way to the Wyoming border for all high-profile and empty trailer vehicles because of high winds.
High wind warnings are in effect until 5 p.m. for northeastern Larimer County and most of northern Weld County, with winds of 25 to 40 miles per hour expected through that time period that could gust up to 60 miles per hour.

To keep lighter semi-trucks from blowing over during the high winds, Colorado State Patrol planned a closure of northbound I-25 from Wellington north to Wyoming for between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday. All high-profile vehicles and those with empty trailers are required to exit at mile marker 281 (Owl Canyon).
Highway 85 was also closed at Nunn – north of Greeley and directly east of Wellington – north to the Wyoming border just after 11 a.m. because of the high winds.
CSP said Highway 287 is the available route into Wyoming or out of Wyoming and back into Colorado during the closures, though high winds are expected along that stretch of highway as well.
Just before 1 p.m., CDOT enacted oversize/overweight permit restrictions on the full stretch of I-70 between Utah and Kansas and on I-76 all the way from Wadsworth Blvd. to the Nebraska border. CDOT said no traffic was being stopped or detoured.
High and gusting winds are common in northern Colorado. Last week, a Denver7 photojournalist was driving behind a semi-truck near the Colorado-Wyoming border when its driver lost control amid high crosswinds on I-25.
