DENVER – Several crashes across the metro area have slowed or stopped traffic on Interstates 25 and 70 Tuesday afternoon as snow continued to fall, though the major closures had been cleared as of 5:10 p.m.
Both directions of I-25 were closed at mile marker 255 near Loveland after a crash involving several semi-trucks not long after 12:30 p.m., Colorado State Patrol said. Highway 402 was used as the detour route. CDOT said I-25 reopened at the crash site just before 5 p.m. – about four hours after it was shut down.
Loveland Fire Rescue Authority said more than 17 vehicles were involved, including three semi-trucks, five large vehicles and several passenger vehicles. Six people were transported to nearby hospitals with minor injuries.
Eastbound I-70 was shut down just before 4:30 p.m. at Tower Road because of a crash but had reopened by 5:10 p.m.
Several vehicles also got into a crash around 12:30 p.m. at mile marker 240 on I-25. One person was taken to a hospital, and the northbound lanes were shut down as of 1:15 p.m., CSP said.
Traction laws are in place on most of the mountain highways and interstates, and crashes have been reported throughout the day across the metro area.
