EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. – Two people were killed and three others were critically injured in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 83 just after 12 p.m. Sunday, the Colorado State Patrol said.
Highway 83 was initially closed between Palmer Divide Avenue, about five miles north of Colorado Springs, and Lake Gulch Road, located about eight miles south of Franktown, according to Colorado Department of Transportation officials.
The closure was later extended to north of Upper Lake Gulch Road and south to County Line Road/East Palmer Divide Avenue.
The three people injured following the crash were taken to a hospital where they remain in critical condition.
The identities of those killed at the scene, as well as those who were injured, were not immediately released.
The highway was back open just before 4:30 p.m., according to CDOT officials.
Officials were not immediately able to provide a cause for the crash.
