Driver killed, child critically hurt in crash

Posted

One life was lost in a horrific Aurora crash on Thursday afternoon.

Both cars involved suffered massive damage.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Picadilly Rd. and E. 6th Avenue., near the east side of Buckley Air Force Base. Aurora Police say the driver of a Saturn sedan ran through a stop sign. The driver of the silver Toyota plowed into that car.

Pieces of the cars were scattered across the ground. The Saturn landed upside down and the Toyota was partially crushed.

The Saturn driver, a woman, died. A 7-year-old girl in the car was critically hurt and taken to the hospital. According to the rescuers on scene, the first cop to arrive to the crash rescued the child, who was hanging from her seat. He cut her out of the car and attended to her until a Life Flight helicopter took her to Children's Hospital. Both of the girl's legs are broken. Another woman was also in the car. Her injuries are life-threatening.

The man driving the Toyota and the two women with him also went to the hospital. Police say they're stable and they're expected to survive.

The roads were closed for the investigation.
