WESTMINSTER, Colo. — All lanes of U.S. 36 were open in their original configuration Friday morning following a months-long project to repair the collapsed roadway.
The highway cracked and started to buckle on July 12 and Colorado Department of Transportation crews closed the road to assess the damage. Over the following days, the roadway continued to shift and crack. A few days later, CDOT said they planned to rearrange the six lanes of the highway so there were two lanes in each direction separated by a concrete barrier for about half a mile. By mid-August, CDOT and Kraemer North America started the rebuilding phase.
As of 4:45 a.m. Friday, all lanes were restored between Wadsworth Boulevard and Church Ranch Boulevard, CDOT said. The Express Lanes also are back open and operational.
A temporary bike path also is open, though CDOT urged cyclists to use caution in the area, since the temporary path is between the work zone and the highway.
CDOT said additional work on the road and bike path will continue through December.
