LOGAN COUNTY, Colo. – Four people are dead following an overnight crash on I-76 near Sterling, a spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol said Saturday.

Reports of the crash on I-76 at mile marker 130, which is located about five miles east of Sterling, came in just after midnight.

Authorities said the crash involved a semi that jackknifed, blocking the entire eastbound lanes of the highway.

The CSP spokesperson said the vehicle hit the semi and went underneath it. The crash took off the top of the car, according to the CSP spokesperson.

The three passengers and the driver died at the scene.

The highway was closed for about ten hours as investigators combed the scene. The CSP spokesperson could not say why the semi jack-knifed.

The names of the victims in the crash have not been released.
