EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. -- Interstate 70 has reopened after closures near Vail and at Silverthorne.
The interstate was closed at Vail, mile marker 178, as a safety precaution, at 5:31 a.m. That closure was lifted at 10:10 a.m.
Westbound I-70 was closed at the summit of Vail Pass, mile marker 190, for avalanche reduction work at 9:16 a.m. It reopened at 10 a.m.
The interstate was closed at Silverthorne, mile marker 205 to 213, because of multiple crashes at 5:22 a.m. That area reopened at 8:15 a.m.
While the interstate is open, traction and chain laws remain in effect for eastbound and westbound I-70 between Morrison and Vail. That's mile markers 259 to 178.
The traction law means all passenger vehicles must have snow or mud/snow tires, or have chains/traction devices, or be 4WD/AWD, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The chain law means all commercial motor vehicles, includes buses and vans with 16+ capacity, are required to have chains or alternative traction devices.
