It may seem unusual for a portable water filtration system to be an Amazon Prime Day top seller. But the LifeStraw was one of 2018’s biggest sellers with more than 150,000 sold during Prime Day. Many people grabbed a bunch of these personal water filters for the purpose of emergency preparedness, and also snagged them for their outdoor sports hydration kits.

Hoping to see another strong sales success, Amazon has put the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter back on its list of Prime Day deals for 2019.  It’s on sale for just under $10, which saves you over 40% off the retail price.

But what is this little gadget and why is it so popular?

The LifeStraw Personal Water Filter can be used as a straw in bodies of water in order to provide a safer drinking experience. The membranes inside the device remove bacteria, parasites and microplastics so that you can drink directly from any source of water, no matter where you’re located.

The invention has been recognized for excellence in design by Time Magazine, Esquire,  Popular Science, Fortune Magazine and others. It has even been on display at the Museum of Modern Art!

Lab tests on the LifeStraw showed that it meets standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for water purifiers. Each LifeStraw filter can process up to 1,000 gallons of clean and safe drinking water when properly used and maintained.

The initial concept for LifeStraw was to help the more than 780 million people in the world who do not have regular access to safe and clean drinking water. As the product hit the market, however, people around the world saw it as a useful tool for emergency situations — usable during natural disasters like hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes — and also a great product for people who enjoy rugged outdoor activities such as climbing and hiking.

At less than $10 per LifeStraw filter, this deal makes it affordable to pick up a few for the future.
