Mia Manson began her athletic career as a competitive rock climber, but pole vaulting is in her blood.
Her father Pat won gold at the Pan American games three times, and her brother Max is a Colorado state champion now vaulting at Stanford.
But this spring Mia had the opportunity to do something her brother never did - win four state championship titles.
"Knowing that I wouldn't even get the chance was hard," says Manson. "Can't put my name on the board next to my dad and my brother."
Before the Coronavirus pandemic, the 2020 State Track & Field championship meet was supposed to be on Mia's 18th birthday. She had a chance to break the state record at 13-feet-9-inches too.
But what she misses most about her lost senior season is the friendships that come along with athletics.
“I’ve had a few days where I’ve been super sad about it," says Manson. "Track, more than just competing, [I'm missing] some of my best friends and my best memories at the track meets and track practices.”
