BOULDER, Colo. – Runners who conquer this year’s BOLDERBoulder are in for a well-deserved Colorado treat.

Having sold more than 15-million snack bars and toaster pastries last year, Bobo’s Oat Bars is a sweet Colorado success story.

Inside Bobo’s Boulder bakery, oats are mixed by 160 bakers before being baked and packaged for distribution.

“A lot of love and care down there at the bakery,” brand manager Mike Mackay says.

Bobo’s started as a classic mom and daughter project. It was on a rainy day in 2003 when Beryl Stafford and her daughter Bobo started experimenting with oats while baking. Bobo took some of the bars to school with her and they were such a hit Beryl started selling them in local coffee shops.

All these years later, Bobo’s offers a tasty, healthy alternative in a crowded field of breakfast and protein bars.

“Everything we bake is gluten free, vegan and non-GMO,” Mackay added. “And a ton of delicious flavors.”

This year Bobo’s will get even more exposure. They’ll be passed out to 52-thousand runners at the end of the BOLDERBoulder.

“We’re really excited to have our loyal fans be able to get a snack after the race,” Mackay said. “But have a lot of those new racers try us for the first time.”

Bobo’s also gives back to the community through what they call ‘snacking with a purpose.” 30-percent of the sales of their peanut butter chip bars goes to the non-profit There With Care, which helps children and families with critical illnesses.
