BOUDLER, Colo. — The Pac-12 Conference canceled the University of Colorado and University of Oregon Saturday game, according to university officials.
COVID-19 issues with the North Division champion, the University of Washington, is preventing them from playing in the league's championship game against USC. Instead of the Saturday game against the Buffaloes, the Ducks will now replace the Huskies to take on USC for the Friday night game.
“We are very proud of our football student-athletes’ commitment and resiliency throughout this season,” said CU athletic director Rick George in a statement. “Our student-athletes have done all that we have asked of them in following our protocols and procedures to ensure we were able to play every game on our schedule. We are disappointed to have another game canceled. We are not considering any non-conference opponents for this weekend.”
Washington determined Monday the team wouldn't have the minimum 53 scholarship student-athletes available or the minimum number of scholarship student-athletes at a position group because of positive COVID-19 cases and contact tracing protocols.
It's not determined what will happen for Colorado as of Monday. They'll wait to see if there's another cancellation within the league involving an opponent the team hasn't played yet for a replacement game.
