Richard Butler joined the Denver7 news team in July of 2021. After almost three years as a news photographer, he moved into the role of specialty multimedia journalist.
Richard was born & raised in Detroit, Michigan. After high school he received a diploma in broadcast media arts at Specs Howard School of Media Arts in Southfield, Michigan. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in video & film production from Middle Tennessee State University in 2018.
While in college, he worked part-time as a technical operator for WSMV-TV in Nashville, Tennessee before becoming a news photographer there. He then worked as a news photographer for FOX17 in Nashville, Tennessee before finding his home here at Denver7.
Richard is a member of the Colorado Association of Black Journalist and has a passion to highlight people in our community who usually do not get the recognition they deserve.
