The Rebound: Castle Rock company helping police department during pandemic

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Normally busy deodorizing cars for area dealerships, Mike McNairy and the Creative Colors International Crew now spend their Mondays disinfecting police cars.

“We’ve always done a deodorizer. When people smoke, we can get that smoke smell out,” McNairy said. “This is like that next step up.”

After wiping down everything with an antimicrobial solution, Mike and his crew give everything inside the police cruisers a good spray with a hospital grad disinfectant.

“I like to do the ceiling all the way down, like I was painting the car if you will,” Mike said.

The disinfectant is a new product for the company.

“The sanitizer thing came about when I saw a thing on TV, maybe the internet, and they talked with one of the fire departments using their own sprayers inside their trucks and I thought, ‘We should be doing that.’”

Castle Rock Police Department Commander Sam Varela says the department is paying for the disinfectant, but Creative Colors is doing the spraying for free.

“It gives him the opportunity to do some work, fills a need for us,” Commander Varela said. “Right now, there are a lot of things we can’t control, but one of the things we can control is a healthy environment for our members.”

Mike says it’s worth the investment.

“This is really for the community, the police department, the frontline warriors who are meeting people every day, coming into contact with people,” he said. “So, we want to keep them as healthy as possible.”

Creative Colors International did apply for and receive a loan through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). That money is allowing Mike to keep his technician on the staff to help with the disinfecting.
