ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Opening a business is difficult on its own but opening just prior to or during a pandemic makes everything that much more challenging. But the City of Englewood is offering new businesses a helping hand.

Businesses that opened in the city within the last 12 months may be eligible for a $2,500 Business Initiation Grant for startup costs, the city said.

This is one of the eight grants the city has provided for business and nonprofit owners thanks to the federal CARES Act. A total of $1,011,950 was set aside for Englewood businesses.

The Business Initiation Grant was created to give brand new businesses a leg up during an already-difficult time, the city said. The program will provide up to $2,500 to help cover startup costs for qualified applicants, according to the application.

A physical storefront presence in a commercial or industrial district is required. The entrepreneur must participate in a business planning workshop through one of Englewood’s economic partners and have a fully developed business plan.

Funding for this program is limited and every business that qualifies may not get the funding.

To begin the application process, contact the City of Englewood’s economic development staff via email at ecodev@englewoodco.gov or phone at 303-762-2599. You can learn more on the city's application page as well.
