Vice President Kamala Harris is racking up endorsements from top Democrats following President Joe Biden's decision to not seek reelection.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has repeatedly been asked about his presidential ambitions, said he is fully supporting Harris.

"With our democracy at stake and our future on the line, no one is better to prosecute the case against Donald Trump's dark vision and guide our country in a healthier direction than America’s Vice President, @KamalaHarris," Newsom said on X.

Newsom was not the only prominent governor to throw his support behind Harris. Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, a potential pick for vice president, said Harris is ready to be president.

"Kamala Harris is a patriot worthy of our support and she will continue the work of generations of Americans who came before us to protect our union," he said.

Monday morning, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer publicized her support for Harris in a statement shared online. "Today, I am fired up to endorse Kamala Harris for President of the United States," said Whitmer.

Harris has not locked up the Democratic nomination just yet. She still needs to earn the support of the majority of delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago next month.

As of Sunday, no other candidate had announced they would challenge Harris for the party's nomination. However, Scripps News learned that West Virginia Independent Sen. Joe Manchin is considering switching his party affiliation back to Democrat to potentially take on Harris. It's unclear whether Manchin would have broad support like Harris.

"I couldn’t be more confident that Vice President @KamalaHarris
is the right person to defeat Donald Trump and lead our country into the future," Kelly said on X. "She has my support for the nomination, and Gabby and I will do everything we can to elect her President of the United States.
