DENVER — On Thursday afternoon, Colorado lawmakers plan to discuss wildfire recovery and how the state can move forward while preparing for the next big fire.

Congressman Joe Neguse who is leading the discussion will be joined by Gov. Jared Polis, Sen. Michael Bennet, and Sen. John Hickenlooper for a panel discussion followed by a listening session to hear from those still feeling the impact of last summer’s fires.

More than 200 homes and thousands of acres burned due to the East Troublesome, Cameron Peak, and Calwood fires.

Recently, Neguse introduced the Wildfire Recovery Act, which would give states more help from Fire Management Assistance Grants.

The act would allow states like Colorado to be reimbursed for more than 75% of what is spent to fight wildfires.

Neguse also helped launch the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus to help improve the federal response to wildfires.

The listening session is being held virtually and begins at noon. Participants must be registered.
