EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. – The Carson Midway Fire in southwestern El Paso County is now 100 percent contained, except for tires that are still burning in the town of Fountain, according to the latest update from El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Fire Personnel from within El Paso County, Pueblo County and Ft. Carson will continue to monitor and attack hot spots Sunday in the fire zone. The El Paso County Deputy Fire Warden is now overseeing operations, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
Only a few homes remain evacuated near the 20800 block of Prairie Fire Point, officials said.
Residents who cannot return are advised to contact the Red Cross for services or assistance at (800) 417-0495. Red Cross case works will also be available at the chapter office to provide further assistance. The office is located at 1040 S. 8th Street in Colorado Springs.
El Paso County Public Health is available to provide help with fire clean-yup and re-entry guidelines for those residents that have returned home, officials added.
Latest numbers from Ft. Carson officials stated the fire was about 3,300 acres in size.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
