DURANGO, Colo. – Firefighters in southwest Colorado are not only working the 416 Fire burning north of Durango, another wildfire burning to the east is also keeping them busy this weekend.

The Burro Fire, which was first reported on Friday near mile marker 34 on Highway 145 at 3:45 p.m., was reported to be 493 acres in size with 0 percent containment Sunday, a San Juan National Forest official said.

The fire is burning about 23 miles east of Dolores near Burro Mountain on the Dolores Ranger District, about 45 miles northwest of Durango in southwest Colorado.

A temporary area closure remains in effect on the Colorado Trail from Molas Pass to Junction Creek, officials said early Sunday.

The fire was moving downslope into the Bear Creek drainage and burning spruce-fir vegetation. It was reported by a medical helicopter.

No structures are threatened at this time, the National Forest official said.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.
