The pilot whose plane apparently exploded and crashed in a remote area on the Western Slope has been identified as 62-year-old William Ray Hiller of Tabernash.
Hiller was flying from Provo, Utah, to Granby, Colorado, last Thursday when witnesses said they heard a plane rev its engine, then heard an explosion, near Meeker.
Air traffic controllers at the Denver Center Traffic Control said a plane disappeared from radar and gave deputies the coordinates.
Searchers found the wreckage in a snowy, forested area about 15 miles west of Meeker.
