Hash oil to blame for fifth wheel trailer explosion in Weld County

Posted

WELD COUNTY, Colo. – Hash oil is to blame for a large explosion that left two men injured Monday evening near the town of Frederick, according to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.

The explosion took place inside a fifth wheel trailer at 8:11 p.m. in the 7800 block of Weld County Road.

When deputies arrived, they found the fifth wheel trailer fully engulfed in flames. Two men — ages 32 and 71 — were taken to Northern Colorado Medical Center where they were listed in serious condition after sustaining serious burns.

As the investigation unfolded into the explosion, deputies found evidence of “a butane hash oil extraction process,” deputies said Tuesday afternoon. The Weld County Drug Task Force responded and is assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at 970-356-4015 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776. A $2,000 reward is available for any information that can lead to an arrest.
