A Winter Storm Warning is in effect until 11 p.m. Monday for areas southwest and northwest of the San Juan Mountains, including Telluride, Ouray, Lake City, Silverton, Rico and Hesperus. Snow may range from moderate to heavy throughout the day, with accumulation of 2-6 inches, the NWS said.
Travel over Wolf Creek Pass on Highway 160 in Mineral County could be difficult as patchy snow may reduce visibility, according to the NWS.
The NWS said it's not yet clear if a heavier band of precipitation will develop by the afternoon. This could result in higher snow totals across some parts of the eastern plans. The Palmer Divide could see between 1-3 inches of snow.
Colorado State Patrol shut down westbound I-70 at the Eisenhower Tunnel and eastbound I-70 at Silverthorne just before 2:30 p.m. because of crashes and snowy road conditions. The road reopened about three hours later, at 5:30 p.m.
But Loveland Pass was closed as of 6:30 p.m., meaning the alternate route around the I-70 tunnel traffic was no longer feasible.
⚠️UPDATE⚠️ I-70 is OPEN In both directions between Silverthorne (Exit 205) and US 6 Loveland Pass (Exit 216). **Motorists should continue to plan for delays due snow-packed roads, cold temps and other winter weather conditions.** #knowbeforeyougo #winterwise https://t.co/hb3X5Td3AJ
