Colorado to host pro cycling race this summer, Colorado Classic to run August 10-13, 2017

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado will host a pro cycling race this summer.

The new race, named the Colorado Classic, will be a four-stage race held August 10-13, 2017.

The race will feature men's and women's teams and will be held in Colorado Springs, Breckenridge and Denver.

"Each day’s competition will showcase an interactive start/finish area; and the daily routes will combine downtown circuits of each city with the beauty of Colorado’s legendary terrain and landmarks," race officials said.

The Colorado Classic replaces the Pro Cycling Challenge that was run in Colorado from 2011 to 2015. Colorado also had a stage race in the 1970s and 1980s known first as the Red Zinger Classic and later as the Coors Classic. It ended after 1988 due to a lack of sponsors.
