PAGOSA SPRINGS, Colo. -- Authorities have released the name of a 54-year-old man who was found dead in a hot spring in southwestern Colorado.
Matthew Kochen was found face down in a small community-built pool upstream from the Pagosa Hot Springs Resort on Sept. 25, according to The Cortez Journal. A witness in a nearby pool noticed Kochen alive about 10 to 15 minutes before he was found dead.
Archuleta County Coroner Dan Keuning ruled the death an accidental drowning influenced by alcohol intoxication. He says alcohol use while in hot water can cause a person to pass out.
Kochen was living and working in Pagosa Springs.
