PALMER LAKE, Colo. — Buc-ee's, a road trip staple with a cult-like following, could be coming to southern Colorado.

In a post on Facebook, Palmer Lake Mayor Glant Havenar said a developer for a potential Buc-ee's on County Line Road and Interstate 25 inquired about annexation of land outside of Palmer Lake boundaries.

According to Havenar, anyone who asks for one is afforded an annexation hearing under state statute. The Town of Palmer Board of Trustees will hold an annexation eligibility hearing on Dec. 12.

Havenar said the town cannot comment on the project at this stage.

"I will gather the facts and information and hear from local residents to determine the best course of action when I am called upon to vote," the mayor said in her post.

Buc-ee's is a fan favorite in the Lone Star State. The convenience store has been called a road trip destination rather than a pit stop.

The chain opened its first Colorado location in Johnstown in May. If a location is built near Palmer Lake in El Paso County, it will be Colorado's second Buc-ee's location and the first in southern Colorado.

Havenar is encouraging residents to attend the Dec. 12 hearing in order to learn more.
