National Republican group pulls $1 million out of Mike Coffman's race

DENVER -- The political committee tasked with electing Republicans to Congress is pulling all the money it had planned to spend on Rep. Mike Coffman, R-Aurora, between now and Election Day.

The National Republican Congressional Committee confirmed the $1 million withdrawal to The Denver Post on Friday.

“It shows that the NRCC is in a defensive position around the country,” Colorado GOP strategist Dick Wadhams said. “But I don’t think this an indication they have given up on the 6th District.”

The NRCC’s withdrawal is a reversal from where it was less than a month ago, when another outside spending group, Congressional Leadership Fund, pulled $1 million in television advertising dollars out of Coffman’s race. The NRCC essentially backfilled that loss in September.
