DENVER -- Back in 2008, a National Defense Authorization Act created a program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War and honoring the veterans who served in Vietnam between 1955 and 1975.

Through the commemoration, veterans that served during that time can apply for lapel pins that read “Vietnam War Veteran” on the front and “A Grateful Nation Thanks and Honors You” on the back.
While many of the pins are being mailed to veterans homes and handed out during ceremonies with veterans groups, Colorado Congressman Ed Perlmutter has put together three ceremonies where he will present pins to Colorado veterans. The ceremonies have been so popular, they filled up within days of being announced.
"I think there is a craving for the recognition, for the deserved recognition, shown by how many have responded to these ceremonies," Perlmutter told Nicole Brady on this week's Politics Unplugged.
"The ability of my office to help these guys, and to help men and women who served in that period, it's one highlights of serving in Congress," Permutter went on to say.
