DENVER -- Aurora Mayor Steve Hogan wants you to shop locally this holiday season. He says his city alone has about 15,000 small businesses and one-in-five of those businesses are retail operations. In order for them to survive, they need people to buy from them.
“In many cases their website is nothing more than a name, phone number and address,” he told Nicole Brady on this weekend's Politics Unplugged. “For those small businesses to survive, people have to shop.”
Hogan says small businesses will always be a big driver for local economies.
“Nationally, economists estimate that probably 75-85 percent of jobs are created by small businesses.” Hogan said. “They can differ on the definition of small business and employees, but still that’s a huge number whether it’s based upon ten people working there or 200.”
Politics Unplugged airs Sundays at 4:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Denver7.
