ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Recently, a bank with an unusual shape on S. Broadway appeared to be under construction, prompting some to think the historic building was closing and causing others to ask, "What’s that?"
The iconic Community Banks of Colorado in Englewood remains open and is currently receiving a fresh coat of paint.
Since the building opened in 1967, the bank’s spaceship-like shape has brought a lot attention.
The bank originally opened as the Key Savings & Loan Association building and has since had several different owners, though it has typically housed a financial institution.
The building was designed by famed architect Charles Deaton, who is known for his mid-century modern style.
In 2016, the building was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
