LAKEWOOD, Colo. — More than 52,000 apartment units are in the works or planned for the Denver metro area and there are no signs of this construction boom slowing down.
This week, a Lakewood resident reached out to Denver7 asking about the newest construction project in her neighborhood.
Neicha Robles asked, “What’s that? A large development project is happening in Lakewood at 13th and Lamar and it looks like it’s going to be huge! As a neighbor in that area, I am not pleased! Please tell me what they are building.”
The development is a large apartment complex called Brickhouse at Lamar Station.
According to Shaw Construction, the contractor for the project, Brickhouse will include 293 market-rate apartments and one level of parking.
Robles and her husband Greg Robles are concerned about what the new development means for their community.
“I'm a little bit disappointed that nobody got the local residents of the area's input first before they just decided to build this massive complex right around the corner,” Neicha Robles said.
Greg Robles said one of their biggest concerns is traffic.
“Our streets are not made for it right now. We’re starting to find and realize that it will take at least another 10 minutes to get out of our neighborhood to go to where we need to," Greg Robles said.
Neicha and Greg Robles told Denver7 their issue isn’t with this particular development but the impact of all the developments coming in, making longtime residents like themselves feel pushed out.
“Take a breath, and let the development happen at a slower pace and let us react to it and grow with it instead of it just growing on top of us," Neicha Robles said.
Brickhouse is scheduled to be complete by Fall 2021.
