GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. -- As Our Colorado grows, some of our old buildings are taking on new life. There’s a project in Greenwood Village with a new spin on an old time classic.

The former Greenwood Plaza Stadium 12 movie theater on Arapahoe Rd. is now owned by Regal Cinemas. The location shut down a few years ago under the United Artists ownership.

Construction crews are doing an internal remodel. The work will renovate and up-fit the existing movie theater.

"It brings back memories from when I was raising my two daughters and the opportunity that we could come close by and see a movie,” said Centennial resident Paul Lewandowski.

Lewandowski was saddened when the old theater closed, he said, but is looking forward to the reopening.

“It’s close and convenient and I think the density of the population in the area is pretty good too,” said Lewandowski.

"It’s always good to see,” said Mellissa Elbeck.

Ellbeck has walked by the theater's location for more than a decade now while working nearby. She said she's noticed the recent changes.

“All of the chairs were in the back of it so today I thought I am going to walk by and see what's going to happen,” said Ellbeck. "I will definitely come back when it is all redone.”

The new theater has plans to mirror another location nearby, with restaurant-style amenities like the ones offered to moviegoers at Southglenn.

Contractors have not shared a date for when the theater will reopen its doors.
