DENVER — A longtime Denver garden center will be coming to end.

The City of Denver purchased the land where Groundcovers Greenhouse has been since 1979 and plans to turn the property, located 4301 East Iliff Avenue, into a park.

The owner of Groundcovers Greenhouse, Keri Luster, said the University Hills neighborhood business has been in her family since the 80s.

"I've worked here since I was 12, so yeah, we've all see each other go through a lot of changes, the neighborhood, the growth," Luster said.

Currently, all of the parks surrounding the property are between a 20 to 30-minute walk.
The Hancock administration says its goal is to put all Denver residents within a 10-minute walk of a park or open space.

The city said they can bring in this new green space because of a sales tax measure, which voters passed last year.

"We've been helping people make the neighborhood pretty for years, and we wanted to make sure we left it pretty," Luster said.

It's still unknown what the exact plans are for the park.
