In the future, the E-470 Public Highway Authority wants to see more options available to drivers when they use the toll road.

For that reason, Executive Director of the Highwy Authority Tim Stewart said they've opened their request for proposals in order to begin the process of bringing in business along the toll road.

"That’s our No. 1 objective, to provide a safe, convenient and reliable service for our customers to benefit them long term," Stewart said.

Stewart said that since 2009, when they transitioned to cashless tolls, a lot of the buildings on site have not been used.

"The building itself has various uses and possibly can be reused in its kind or maybe stripped and new building all together built," Stewart said.

The possibilites could be endless. Stewart said several locations along E-470 could be used as gas stations, retail space or hotels.

"In other states we’ve seen where they’ve done hotels, retail space, kind of more of a mall type setting," Stewart said. "Whether the volume of demand will be able to support that the market will tell us."

Anyone interested in submitting a proposal is urged to apply.
